2007 prices increased by a staggering 67% due to the deficit
Less than 1% of the worlds demand for tropical hardwoods is being supplied by plantation forestry, Most of this still comes from natural rain forests, more countries are acting to stop illegal logging making a shortage in the availability of tropical hardwoods thus driving up prices.
The Costa Rican National Forestry Office have reported that teak prices have gone up 15% per annum between 2002 and 2006.
